Create. Curate. Collaborate. Meet the Ladies of Luxe B Studios
Meet the women who are cultivating Luxe B Studios right in the heart of the “Black Metropolis”.
What started as a boutique in 2016 now demonstrates a multi-purpose space, encouraging Chicago residents to get as creative as possible. Luxe B Studio, 358 E. 47th St., sits right next door to Peach’s on 47th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
“We are a creative studio event space and a pop-up shop. We create, curate and collaborate by hosting our own in-house events and projects, we allow people to rent the space out for their own events and projects and we also collaborate with different artists and entrepreneurs as well as other businesses within the community. Our focus is collaborative entrepreneurship within the modern arts”, said Creative Director, Keigii.
As the Creative Director, Keigii currently holds general responsibilities for the space. She said she wants the space to be a strong foothold in the community and in the modern arts. Aside from managing the space she is a photographer for Dragonnoire Khydigi and host The Creators Garden which is held every Wednesday from 7p-9p at Luxe B Studios.
“So what the Creators Garden does is facilitate co-creation and dialogue. We always have a master of ceremony and a featured artist. The Master of Ceremony is the individual who kind of creates the vibe for the evening. It can fall into a range of different things,” said Keigii.
One of the Creators Garden included an affirmations exercise titled, “Genie in a Bottle” where the group wrote down their affirmations, sealing them in a bottle and manifesting their dreams and goals together.
Another weekly event is the Bronzeville Real Estate Round-table which is dedicated to “showing working Americans how to utilize real estate as a catalyst to wealth no matter your background or past experiences…”
This round table is held every Tuesday at 6p. The meeting not only goes over real estate but also provides vital tax information to those looking to get into business for themselves.
“It is an avenue for entrepreneurs, creatives and for the most part, inner city people to congregate in relation to business start-up and business enhancement. Not only are you getting the principles of real estate you’re getting the ability to utilize the principles of real estate no matter your background or what industry you’re in,” said Donyetta who leads these round tables.
After revamping the Luxe B Studio space, Donyetta who is not only related to the owner but has also partnered with him in the past, thought the new model was a perfect match for her as a real estate educator. There has already been three round table sessions and she said the group is rapidly growing.
“It’s actually a wanted service in the community. So one of my long term goals is to expose as many people as possible to some of these principles of real estate,” said Donyetta.
Then there’s Jai Kalondra who is the Art Director. She is actively involved with the Creators Garden and as the in-house artist, she also curates private art shows. Her most recent show was an interactive arts exhibition titled N.U.D.E. Never Underestimate Divine Energy. The exhibit included erotic poetry, live jazz performances, body painting and more.
“I want people to walk into the space and view the human form without judgement and hyper-sexualization and I even want them to leave this place perceiving themselves in a different way. I really want them to see the divine energy within themselves and in other people,” said Jai about the exhibition.
There were over 15 different mediums being showcased including a few paintings of her own and it was a successful night.
Luxe B Studio has a vibrant selection of 3 talented women who all have something different to contribute to the space. As they continue to bring Luxe B to life they are sharing the love with others, so make sure you give them a visit.
